Improving Efficiency
Efficiency can be defined as how much energy we use to produce an action or item. Optimizing efficency is then how to reduce
the energy required to produce the same output. However in complex environments, like a supply chain for example, there are many
areas that are using energy and the inefficiences are often in the interaction of all of those elements working together.
Adding Attendant to your application can allow you to adaptively monitor the efficency of your system as a whole to
find those areas that are inefficient. These kinds of situations are practically impossible to determine
ahead of time or to data mine afterwards as they are too complex. As an example, in a warehouse environment, efficiency is:
i. energy used by staff
ii. energy used by equipment such as fork lift trucks
iii. location of goods
iv. arrangement of goods
Even with this relatively simple but continuously changing environment the interaction of the elements creates a very complex
event stream if tracked in real time. Attendant can monitor these events over time to determine when the system is "stressed",
allowing a human manager or business system to pinpoint the areas of inefficiency as they happen and correct them in real time.
